Patriotism is defined as loyalty (vigorous support) for one’s country. But that is not the same as loyalty to a government, or even a form of government. And really, is isn’t even loyalty to a country, for who is loyal to grass, trees, rivers, hills or weather? No, real loyalty, reduced to its essence, is to a way of life, to a culture.
That is what the Farage factor (Brexit and Trump) has brought to light. People’s cultures are being destroyed and, at a deeply personal level, they are now refining and reducing their loyalty to that which really matters to them.
It is their culture that they value and they will not easily give it up. They will give up governments, and even flags and national anthems for these are only the window dressings of their real loyalty, but they will not give up their culture without a fight.
This bringing into focus of cultural loyalty has been brought about by forced immigration of a wholly alien culture – namely, the Islamic culture. It has been happening with other cultures for over fifty years, but most immigrants are able to adapt to a new culture – to integrate. Australia has received great blessings from many waves of migration.
The implanting of the wholly alien Muslim culture into Anglo and European countries is a different matter entirely. It is not possible for Muslims to integrate into civilised society and the naïve attempt to force the issue will lead to violence.
What fools politicians are. All common sense seems to desert them once elected.
The path back to Gold is more fraught with the potential for disaster than even I had imagined.
