Sunday
I find some agreement with Bono and his call for Capitalism to be tamed.
We should begin with pop concerts. These anarchic, free-wheeling, displays of youthful over-exuberance should be tamed by government legislation.
A Music Authority must be established to report (without limitation) to the government on:
1 Concert Ticket Prices
Prices should not display any element of profit-gouging in that they should not exceed public expectations.
2 Equitable Distribution
Tickets should be offered to all sectors of society in such a manner that it can be demonstrated that none are disadvantaged.
3 Lyrics
All lyrics should be subject to guidance to ensure that inclusivity is promoted, proper pronouns are used and sensitivity to all segments of society is on display. All genders should receive equal representation and no hate speech would be tolerated.
4 Equality of Product
All concert attendees should receive an equal view and audio of the band. This would also apply to designated Safe Spaces.
5 Band Equality – Section 1
Every band should represent equally the full sexual and cultural spectrum and have at least one handicapped member. Extra band members may need to be employed. This alone would bring much-needed employment to what has been seen, rightly, as a rather exclusive industry.
Band Equality – Section 2
Award rates for band members, roadies and associates should be inspected with a clear mandate to root out profit inequality.
6 Performing bands would be responsible for the safety and security of all attendees and security personnel.
7 The newly established Authority should have powers to:
a/ look into past profit-gouging and other unfair practices and to order restitution for past injustices and inequalities and, b/ to explore the desirability of expanding its powers to the music download and CD business.
Yes, I have my tongue in my cheek. Bono has about 700 million quid.
