The Democrats will, if they have any sense, tear their Party to pieces, State by State, and get rid of the looney anti-Americans in their midst. If they do not immediately clear out the riff-raff, then the Party will implode and a new party arise from the ashes (probably led by Tulsi Gabbard). Pelosi, Schiff, Alexandra Cortez, Ilhan Omar etc. have caused enormous, and possibly permanent, damage to the brand with their treasonous lies and socialist codswallop.
With the Republican Party, well they never really liked Trump anyway. He was an outsider. He has secured the constitutional faithfulness of the SCOTUS for decades to come, presented the Republicans as the party of sound economic management and brought many Americans (minorities in particular) into the Republican fold. Will the Party now loyally rally behind him? Almost certainly not. ‘Business as usual’ was far more peaceful and comfortable. They’ve heard quite enough of this ‘get rid of the corruption’/America First nonsense. The problem is that many of those new voters are not Republicans, they’re Trumpists. If the Party does not back Trump, then they will leave as quickly as they came.
It seems plausible that a new party, led by the two Trumps, senior and junior, could split off from the Republicans. Without the handicap of the Republican brand, Trump would likely pull a lot more minority voters (a majority?), while hanging onto almost everyone that voted for him in the 2020 election. In that scenario, the next president could be Trump junior. It would, of course, require at least one honest news medium, so Trump would have to buy his own. That shouldn’t be hard.
The ‘behind the scenes elite’, the Swamp, call them what you will, are betting that the Trump supporters will remain placid and well behaved. Hopefully, they will be shown to be wrong. The disgraceful corruption that sees President Trump on the verge of being illegally ousted has been a step too far – way too far.
On the plus side, the Senate will not pass the absurd fantasy known as the Green New Deal, nor will it approve of court-stacking or tax increases. The Republicans rule the Senate and have gained many seats in the House. We are blessed with a grid-locked US government. With luck it will last Biden’s whole term.
