Now that China’s economy is unravelling, Xi is in real trouble.
Screwing up at the level that he has done, and has been seen to have done, will have consequences.
Since arriving in office as president in 2013, Xi Jinping has assumed total power in China. Along with total power, goes total responsibility. Positioning himself as the focal point of China’s government when he did could turn out to have been a fatal mistake.
At the very least, expect Xi Jinping to be deposed and sent into rural exile. More likely is that he will disappear – permanently.
The end of the reign of Xi Jinping could mean the end of China’s brutal communist regime and the emergence of China as a more civilized country.
Whatever happens, China is going to be internally focused for a number of years.
Time for the West to back off and stop being provocative. Let China go through its convulsions and adjustments without outside pressure.
