The major E.U. economies closed down their own power sources leaving themselves dependent upon Russian energy for their survival. That idiocy was followed up by moving military forces toward Russia’s border in a move guaranteed to provoke a response by Russia.
Now the E.U. has insufficient energy to keep industries and farms running and homes heated. By November 2022, the scale of the self-inflicted disaster will be apparent to even the most obtuse.
The E.U. is heading rapidly into a full-blown depression. It will be of a magnitude which makes it unlikely that they will ever fully recover. That it will see the disintegration of the E.U. itself along with its pseudo-currency, and the Green politics that has brought it to this appalling state, will be no consolation whatsoever to the people who are going to freeze and go hungry.
While this is now largely acknowledged, heads are still, mostly, in the sand with regard to the contagion effect. The depression will not, can not, be restricted to Europe.
The deliberate destruction of power sources (not just in the E.U) and breaking of energy supply lines will impact almost every country in the world. The only countries likely to survive with their societies intact will be Russia and some of its close neighbours. China, which is busily destroying the prosperity created by Deng Xiaoping’s market reforms, will, yet again, collapse into chaos – but probably not without first militarily lashing out.
The only thing constant in this world is change. Sometimes it is incremental and we cope with it without really even noticing. Sometimes it is more severe and disruptive adjustments have to be made. Sometimes it is an overnight catastrophe, the scale of which is breathtaking and calamitous.
As the old boy scout motto used to go – Be Prepared.
