I believe that Ron DeSantis will be the Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency. Donald Trump has lost momentum. He didn’t do a lot wrong; in many ways he is a victim of his own success.
He re-invigorated the Republican Party and re-shaped it in his own image. But, while the party was re-forming and coalescing around constitutional principles again, younger Republicans with more acceptable personas and less baggage have emerged.
As both a candidate and President, Trump was a breath of fresh air. The Democrats and media treated his presidency, person and family in a despicable manner and, in so doing, highlighted their own gutter-level corruption and immorality for all with the eyes, honesty and intellect to see.
But it’s over. I hope that Trump has the good sense to back out gracefully. If so, he will be forever remembered and treasured as the man who put the party back on course.
Donald Trump is the Paterfamilias of the Republican Party, but Ron de Santis will be the next president. He will likely be an extremely good president, but he will forever be in the shadow of The Donald.
