Ukraine has joined the long list of U.S. geostrategic blunders. Even the compromised media is beginning to state, reluctantly, the obvious…
The Ukraine military, trained and equipped over an eight year period, was humbled within weeks. The estimated cost in terms of the lives of young Ukrainian men ranges from 250,000 – 500,000. Add the crippled and maimed to that number.
Russia methodically and relentlessly continues to do what it stated it intended to do right at the outset of its intervention in the Ukraine civil war – de-militarize Ukraine. It is achieving that with minimal loss of troops or equipment.
And now the West are backing away from the destruction that they have wrought. It is possible that the U.S. will try to get N.A.T.O. troops to cross the border, but surely even the Poles aren’t that silly? No other European country would even countenance the idea.
Logic suggests that Zelensky will do a deal – anything that precludes him from being personally added to the death total. It will be sooner rather than later.
And here is the kicker; it is possible that a deal between the Ukraine and Russia could be brokered – but with China sitting in the mediator’s chair. That would be the ultimate humiliation for the U.S.
Another entirely plausible (to me) possibility is the formation of a replacement for the United Nations. The U.N. has for years been losing respect, but its obsequious refusal to condemn the West’s latest aggression could turn out to have been a step too far.
As the U.N. replaced the League of Nations, so could a new body replace the U.N. It is not hard to organize and the vast majority of the countries of the world would sign up without hesitation.
Maybe the world will see the emergence of a real ‘rules-based international order’.
