The whole idea behind the E.U., supposedly, was to stop the wars that have plagued Europe since forever.
But what caused the wars? The wars were caused by the friction between different cultures with different faiths and traditions that were exacerbated by closed borders. That was it.
So what did the E.U. do? They forcibly intermingled the different cultures. What will be the outcome?
Civil wars resulting in slaughter across the whole of Western Europe and a massive exodus of the former migrants.
Once the nations have re-established their own cultures, and they will, the intermittent international wars will begin again.
What is it about that simple equation that is not, was not, obvious?
What will stop all wars would be the re-introduction of honest money and the opening up of borders to free trade. The win/win of profit overcomes all other frictions.
Thus the 100 years peace of the 19th century*.
Forcible integration of opposing cultures, exacerbated by dishonest ‘money’ was the most stupid policy imaginable. The less generous interpretation is that it was sheer evil.
