The humiliation of N.A.T.O. by Russia, on top of the looming collapse of the economies of Western Europe (incl. U.K) due in large part to their suicidal energy sanctions, is the final straw for the E.U.
It appears that the two thousand years in the making rise of Europe has reached its peak. Will it ever be able to return to glory, or will future tourists stare at the crumbling ruins of Berlin, London and Paris in the manner of today’s tourists who gaze at the Parthenon?
Will the perennially revanchist Poles really open themselves up to a war with Belarus, and thus Russia, by seeking to militarily occupy N.W. Ukraine? Surely not, but their largely self-inflicted 20th century disasters do not bode well. Poland peaked in the glory days of King Jan III Sobieski. After the Soviets were offed due to the inspired leadership of the redoubtable Lech Walesa in Gdansk, there was hope for a return to those glory days, but it was not to be.
I had wished to spend my final years in Europe, but those plans are shelved. Hungary seems certain (to me) to pull out of the E.U. and forge links with the Russians. Who could have seen that coming five years ago, even two years ago? Maybe Hungary will still be an option. Hell of a language, but I wouldn’t be the only refugee from the West.
