“Look and you shall see.”
If I had to give one pithy piece of advice to someone at the beginnings of a life’s journey, it would be that.
I spent my life running small businesses (retail and restaurants), and my sole educational basis was – look and see.
In the restaurants, I looked at the customers arriving, eating, paying at the till and leaving. I looked at the staff arriving, taking orders, carrying food and drinks to the tables, preparing cutlery, clearing tables etc.
I looked at the cooks and the kitchen staff preparing the food.
I looked and I saw and I was thus attuned to reality. I knew what was happening and thus how and where it could be improved.
Lest you think that this is obvious. It is not.
The vast majority of people do not LOOK and SEE; they LOOK and THINK (and assume and imagine and extrapolate).
That leads to nothing except endless and fruitless speculation.
LOOK and SEE leads to the situation where you KNOW.
When you KNOW, you can ACT.
When you can ACT, then you can LEAD.
When you can LEAD then you are out in front of the world.
